Quick Overview
This is a comprehensive, lavishly illustrated review of orthopaedic oncology that is multi-disciplinary, integrative and highly practical. Introductory chapters cover overviews of the basics of bone and soft tissue tumors – the pathology, radiology and surgical and oncologic management. These are followed by chapters covering all tumor types organized according to the 2013 WHO classification of bone and soft tissue tumors. Each class of tumor is dealt with in detail, with case presentations illustrating how they would be diagnosed and managed in a clinical setting. The range of variation of each tumor type is indicated with appropriate radiological and pathological images. Detailed tables and flow charts provide quick access to vital diagnosis and staging information for each tumor type. DOODY'S BOOK REVIEW
REVIEWER'S EXPERT OPINION

Samuel J. Chmell, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)

Description

d soft tissue tumors, this book represents a complete source of the relevant necessary medical information in a concise accessible format.

Purpose

he authors aim to provide a guide to the diagnosis of bone and soft tissue tumors and the management of patients with these conditions. Second, they aim to optimize learning by using a format of initial succinct review followed by in-depth description with patient presentations.

Audience

This is written for physicians who are not at specialized centers, but who see the occasional patient with musculoskeletal tumors. It also serves as a valuable resource for specialty clinicians and residents/registrars in training.

Features

The book represents the partnership of an orthopedic surgeon, an oncologist, a musculoskeletal radiologist, two radiation oncologists, and a pathologist.

The result is a product that is, indeed, greater than the sum of its parts.

It presents a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach based on clinical reality.

The pathology photomicrographs are impeccable.

Assessment

This book is unique on the basis of its organization and format. It provides a phenomenal educational tool. Tumor surgery is not high on most orthopedic surgeons' or residents' interest lists. However, it is an area that most of us wish we knew more about, and should. Now, with this book, we have no excuse.

This is an absolutely necessary addition to the academic medical library.
