Multimodal Retinal Imaging

AMRESH CHOPDAR
ISBN: 9781907816604January 2014192 Pages

Synopsis

Retinal imaging techniques have expanded in leaps and bounds from the early days of colour fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography to a multitude of newer techniques. Ophthalmologists need to continually update their skills to adapt to these newer techniques. This book provides both trainee and practising ophthalmologists, as well as ophthalmic photographic technicians, with the skills needed to apply the varied techniques used in everyday clinical practice and accurately interpret the results obtained.

This book was conceived in line with the Skills Transfer Retinal Imaging course run by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Some of the contributors also lecture and participate in running the course. The book describes the techniques of fundus fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, echography, and also includes newer techniques such as optical coherence tomography, autofluorescence and Heidelberg retinal tomography.

      Key Features

Multimodal Retinal Imaging provides a comprehensive, practical overview of the various retinal imaging techniques available to the clinician. It gives trainee and practising ophthalmologists, as well as ophthalmic photographic technicians, the information they need to apply these techniques in everyday clinical practice and accurately interpret the results.

The first half of the book describes all the well-established modalities, such as fundus fluorescein angiography, but also includes newer techniques such as optical coherence tomography. It summarizes the history and development of each imaging technique and gives practical advice on its everyday use.

The second part of the book offers an overview of the retinal disorders, from macular degeneration to diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy. It describes how each condition presents and illustrates the multiple variations seen in clinical practice.

      • Provides a definitive 'go to' reference for trainee and practising ophthalmologists

      • Features a unique technique- and disease-based approach, with over 600 high-quality illustrations, giving a comprehensive but highly practical clinical reference

      • Covers key areas of recent research and development, such as imaging of the outer retina and choroid and retinal imaging
