Surgical Techniques in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery: Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

ISBN: 978935090631620141/e

Key Features

  • Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery is part of a comprehensive series entitled "Surgical Techniques in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery': Other atlases in this series are devoted to various specialties within the field, including Head and Neck Surgery, Otologic and Neurotologic Surgery, Sinonasal Surgery, Laryngeal Surgery, and Pediatric Otolaryngologic Surgery.  Twenty-five chapters are included in all in this volume, covering both cosmetic and reconstructive surgical techniques ranging from rhinoplasty, face lifts, blepharoplasty, and minimally invasive techniques to scar revision and facial fracture management. Each chapter features background information, step-by-step details of surgical techniques, as well as "pearls" gleaned from surgical experience that are intended to assist clinicians in their efforts to provide state-of-the-art care to their patients.  The chapters dedicated to reconstructing the head and neck are designed to give the reader insight and overview into some of the ways in which facial plastic surgeons seek to restore the head and neck to both form and function. While discussing these techniques, the text also seeks to provide insight into considering the patient as a whole and forming a strong doctor-patient relationship. The reconstructive aspects of the text serve as an overview of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and strives to provide answers for common deficits of the head and neck.  The section on cosmetic surgery of the face presents common approaches to facial aesthetic surgery. Technical approaches are presented from beginning to end in a structured format, while multiple alternative techniques are also provided for these procedures. Aesthetic analysis, photographic standards and descriptions of common maneuvers are depicted.

      Description

This Atlas is not intended to be comprehensive. It features the techniques favored by the authors; indeed, as every practicing facial plastic surgeon knows, each patient is unique, and all surgery must be carefully selected and tailored to the individual. It is impossible to cover every nuance and each modification of every procedure. What have been sought to provide is a broad reference for facial plastic surgical procedures which will assist the reader in his/her approach to facial plastic surgery. As importantly, this volume will provide the necessary foundation to understand and incorporate into practice the variations in physical findings and in technique described in the companion textbook for this Atlas. Hope this text is a useful resource for the reader in his/her journey through facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
