Advances in Cardiology
Key Features
- Understanding of the advancing knowledge in pathophysiology and management of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (diastolic heart failure)
- Better understanding of the principles of pharmacogenetics, and its application in clinical practice
- During last decade, there has been an enormous advance in the therapy of hyperlipidemia, and in this book, these advances have been discussed in detail
- This book has discussed the advances in catheter-based interventions in peripheral, arterial, cerebrovascular, renal and aortic diseases
- Worldwide extensive research continues to improve cell and gene therapy for various cardiovascular disorders. In this book, the results of these research and future directions in gene and cell therapy have been discussed
- Acute stroke is a devastating illness associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. Catheter-based endovascular treatment is gaining popularity. The pros and cons of such procedures have been discussed in this book
- Recent advances in catheter-based treatment of valvular and nonvalvular heart diseases have been discussed in detail
- Advances in percutaneous treatment of ischemic heart disease including development of newer stents have been also discussed in a separate chapter
- Cardiac CT is being increasingly used for assessment of ventricular function and coronary vascular disease.
- Advances in technology, clinical applications and future directions of cardiac CT have been discussed
- Advances continue in pharmacotherapy and catheter-based treatment of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. These advances have been discussed in detail.

Description
Advances in Cardiology is a bold adventure by the editors. In the last few years, there has been enormous advances in many aspects of cardiology. However, only in a very few fields, there have been extraordinary advances. For example, there has been enormous progress in understanding of cardiovascular pharmacogenetics. New pharmacologic agents for treatment of dyslipidemia are being discovered almost every month. In the last 5–10 years, there has been a substantial progress in stem cell and gene therapy in cardiology.
A major advance has occurred in catheter-based vascular therapy, coronary artery, and aortic and valvular diseases. In this book, advances in these aspects of cardiology have been included. There has also been considerable progress in the device used for treatment of arrhythmias particularly of atrial fibrillation.
