This book “Optician’s Guide (A Manual for Opticians)” is a basic reference book for all the dispensing opticians. This has been designed and developed in such a manner so as to give very basic and minimum required technical information about optics and dispensing of spectacles in a very simple language. Practical requirements of the subject have been given primary importance. This book is the third edition which comprises of total 15 chapters. This new edition has been thoroughly revised and one new chapter has been added. A brief discussion on light, lenses, prism, transposition, and prescription has been provided in first five chapters of this book. Different types of ophthalmic lenses are available to serve the different purposes. Some of the special types of lenses available in today’s optical industry are covered in sixth chapter. Seventh chapter seeks to familiarize readers with spectacles frame and their measurements. Procedure applied to convert a slab of glass or plastic or more precisely a blank into a spectacle lens is known as grinding or surfacing of lenses, which is described in eighth chapter. There are certain sequential processes that he must follow while delivering the spectacle to the patient, which are covered in ninth chapter. Quality control procedures which applied as a part of total quality management program are defined in tenth chapter. While dispensing glasses to children, the special attention must be given to some factors which are covered in eleventh chapter. Contact lenses, eyes, troubleshooting, and some useful terms of optometry are covered in the remaining chapters of this book.
