Description
Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is a relatively new way of assessing a student’s grasp over his subject. The format demands clarity of basic concepts as much as their application on clinically challenging situations which seldom present straight from the book. This new platform of assessment calls for an equally novel way of studying. Fetal Medicine and Genetics is an ever-evolving subject which is difficult to summarize in concise textbooks. Moreover, medical science, in general, is a field where hand holding by seniors and gaining insights from their extremely rich experience is key to success. Keeping this in mind, FOGSI’s Genetics and Fetal Medicine Committee has invited stalwarts in the field of Genetics and Fetal Medicine from every nook and corner of the country to share their vast clinical experience of cases for the benefit of those who follow their legacy on the curve of learning. The OSCE stations in this book have been consciously crafted in a manner that goes from basics to advanced on the area of interest. Pictorial stations help students assimilate the content better and have more recall value when such situations arise in clinical sojourn. Practical aspects such as cardinal rules of diagnosis, prognostic factors, further workup and tenets of counseling have been included in a crisp manner so as to keep the content relevant for everyday practice.
